Whitord – Geelong Property News: The market is currently moving at a relatively slow pace. Could this be due to a pre-election pause? Are buyers holding off in anticipation of another rate cut? According to new data released just days before the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) makes its next interest rate decision, inflation in Australia has eased once again. The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ latest monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures show headline inflation slowed to 2.4% over the 12 months to February, down from 2.5% the previous month and still well within the RBA's target range. Two core inflation measures also dropped slightly: CPI excluding volatile items and holiday travel decreased from 2.9% to 2.7%, and the trimmed mean—the RBA's preferred measure of underlying inflation—also fell to 2.7%.
This data comes just under a week before the RBA’s next interest rate decision on April 1, which will be the first made under its new dual-board structure. However, these monthly figures are considered less significant than the quarterly data, which won’t be released until late April. While a rate cut in April seems unlikely, the possibility of one in May is looking increasingly probable.
